Everything You Need To Know Before You Arrive

Gottwood FestivalNews

Tickets are sold out, the site is taking shape, the buzz is building and we are struggling to sleep. With this all in mind we thought it would be a sensible idea to set out all the little things you may be starting to think about or even worse, may not have even thought about until it was too late.

2014 marks our fifth anniversary and also a new theme – Jungle. The word Jungle derives from the Hindi jangal, or the Sanskrit jangala-s. It was first recorded in its own right in 1849, and has been since defined as  an area of land overgrown with dense forest and tangled vegetation… how fitting.

We are actively encouraging all things Jungle for this year’s soiree be that a state of mind, a musical preference or a fitting attire. This aside and in the words of Axl Rose “The Jungle – welcome to it, revellers”.

Travel

We don’t pride ourselves on our close proximity to a major city but that’s all part of the appeal… we’re in the middle of nowhere, and it’s great, apart from the fuel!

Address: Carreglwyd, Llanfaethlu, Holyhead, Anglesey, LL65 4NY

Directions – From mainland Wales (or England) head towards Bangor on the A55, continue through Bangor on the A55 over the Britannia Bridge onto Anglesey towards Holyhead.

Take the A55 towards Valley where you will start to see signs to the festival. Take junction 3 off the A55 towards Valley, take a right at the roundabout (3rd exit) onto the A5 and continue to the crossroads and take another right onto the A5025.

Follow the A5025 for approximately 8 miles until you reach the village of Llanfaethlu. At the approach to the village bear left at the ‘Y’ junction, head through the village and you will begin to see the gates to the festival on your right hand side.

Train – The nearest train station is Holyhead and it takes approximately 3.5 hours from London (Direct from Euston), 2 from Manchester. There will be numerous taxi’s on hand to transport you from the train station to the site. Ask for Gottwood Festival in Llanfaethlu, just off the A5025, it will be sign posted from Valley.

Taxi – Cheapest Taxi companies are Alpha Cabs – 01407 765 000 or AAA Taxi’s – 01407 761 000 / 01407 760 202.  You shouldn’t be looking to spend more than £20.

Car Sharing – If you must use a car we would encourage lift sharing where possible, it’s cheaper, greener and more fun. We can have a real impact on our carbon footprint if we reduce the amount of car journeys. Go Car Share are sorting all the car sharing this year so head over to the specific Go Car Share Gottwood page to hook up a ride.

The Little Things you Probably Have Questions About

Toilets & Showers – Toilets are located across the campsite and main festival site – they will be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. There will be a shower block in the campsite that is available to use at no extra cost to the general public.

Camping – We couldn’t possibly charge you extra to get your head down… could we? No of course not, access to the campsite is included in the ticket price – you will be directed to the campsite from the main ticket gates. No generators allowed, and please keep any portable speaker devices at a low volume, especially when people are trying to sleep in the early hours.

Cash Machines – There are cash machines on site, please use these regularly rather than carrying or storing large amounts of cash on your person or in your tent. Our bars will be accepting both cash and card, traders will be accepting a mixture of both.

Food – You’ve got to eat, and you got to eat well! We have a wide selection of the finest food from around the country, as well as locally sourced specialties. There will be numerous food outlets situated around the site. You will be allowed to bring you own food onto site however, please note that no personal fires, stoves or cooking devices will be allowed.

Phone Signal – There is limited phone signal on site. O2 has the best coverage, there is practically no Vodafone signal.

Charging & Lockers – There will be a charging point for mobile phones and laptops etc in the campsite. This service is being provided by a third party and will be subject to a small charge. The same company will also be offering a locker service for any valuables you do not wish to leave in your tent.

Set Times – All set times and running orders for stages will be detailed in the Gottwood 2015 programme. This will be available for a small charge from all bars and the main ticket gate on arrival.

Age Limit – As you are aware Gottwood is a strictly aged 18+ event. We operate a challenge 25 policy and will ID all individuals that appear to be under the age of 25, there will be strictly no entry to those who are under the age of 18. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer refunds to those refused entry on the day.

Guest List Donations – Anyone attending as part of a complimentary guest list will be asked to pay a £20 donation to a local charity. We are trying to put back as much as possible into the Island of Anglesey and we appreciate your support on this initiative. Obviously there will be opportunities for paying guests to make voluntary donations should they wish.

Green & Local Pledge – We are privileged to have such an amazing site and surroundings to host the festival in, we don’t want to ruin it, in fact we want to look after it as well as putting as much effort as we can back into the local community. We are working closely with the local council, villages and emergency services to provide the best possible festival for both the locals and the travelling festival goers. We source local produce and utilise local services where possible. We have hunted out a great selection of local talent providing a platform for them to perform upon as well as giving local students a chance to showcase there work and talent. We are very aware that we are situated in the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty and we want to support this. We will be working with sustainable waste and refuse companies, the forestry commission, as well as promoting greener methods of transport and more. We would appreciate your support and commitment to this whilst enjoying the festival.

See you in the woods x
